Buisness 101

The most basics in buisness, call it buisness 101 - return calls/email.
The most basic ingredient to success is just caring and respect.
When you ignore a phone call or do not return an email promptly you are saying you do not care .
I do not care what title you hold or how busy you may think you are - every call/ email needs to answered , if you are to busy say that and follow up but be sure to follow up.
As basic and simple as this sounds I see more and more people ignoring it , usually the same people that just don't get it.
Show people you care , don't just mouth the words- show it- prove it - be ahead of it and go the extra mile , every day - not every once in a while.
That is pure basic buisness 101

Care about each other

Be encouraging to your employees and offer praise when appropriate.

Thank employees for doing a good job and let them know that you value them. Should something go wrong or someone makes a mistake, don’t “punish” the person. Rather, talk to the person, teach the correct procedures, and offer encouragement and further teaching when needed. Remember that punishing people only makes things worse in that the employee may become angry and bitter and may want to sabotage their work to get back at the company. If errors continue after correction, then you may need to evaluate that person to make sure he or she is a good fit for the job.

As an employer, you have an excellent opportunity to make a difference in your employees’ lives. This may mean a smile, asking how their family is, or asking about their interests or problems. If you sense that someone is depressed, help that person get the necessary resources, as employees with depression have higher absenteeism, increased health problems, and decreased performance. Remember that we are all humans working together to get through life. We need to care about each other to get the best results.

Doomed to fail

Most businesses and organizations are doomed to fail today because they lack one basic fundamental- loyalty. It amazes me that I hear from so many people in totally different occupations how people are promoted to high positions that did not work their way up- it has become "who you know, not what you know" and that just is not healthy or a way to build loyalty.

A buisness or organization most vital asset is not the building they drive to every day or equipment or computers it is their people, their employees- without them it is doomed to fail.
I fear that the next generation will not know what it is like to work for one company and be totally proud of what they do, people pass through jobs now every five years or so and businesses no longer look at tenure as a good thing, they rather cut the veterans to bring on the young and inexperience.

There are several reasons organizations now target the 50 and above groups and they are all mostly financial reasons, most time the veteran has worked his or her way up the ladder and has accumulated raises along the way so they can be replaced with a younger model. The biggest issue with that is also along the way those vertans have obtained priceless knowledge and relationships that cannot easily be replaced. But because the people now in power positions did not work their way up the ladder they really have no idea all that these people do on a day to day or what they know.

Another reason is health insurance, as the veteran grows older they most likely may need the use of their life insurance more and that cost more for businesses.

As we grow with technology we need to remember the basics and how businesses profit and grow - it was and always will be the people , the people that turn that computer and answer that phone and shuffle all that paperwork and email and do that manual labor.
Just as important are relationships from owners and management to their employees and from their employees to their customers.
It is all about pride in what you do because you have loyalty and feel respected .

Pretty simple, right ? - Relationships and Loyalty-
Then why don't today's organizations get it ?

Assume nothing

An excerpt from a book written by Coach Bill Parcells-

Assume nothing.

Coaches can't ever be afraid to repeat the most elementary fundamentals. As Tom Cahill used to tell my high school football team, " First who, then how. If you don't know who to hit , what am I teaching you how to hit him for ? " Coach Cahill would get very dramatic at our first sign of confusion, He'd stop practice and point at each lineman, one at a time: "You have him, you have him, you have him.... You're running the ball here- now does everyone have it ?" And then he'd go down the line again, repeating the matchups, and finally he'd say, "Now, goddamn it , get 'em ! "

Coach Cahill was adamant about the basics; they say you are a product of your environment, and there I am.I emphasize all the time, especially with a younger team, because it's the obvious things that beat you if they're not taken care of. There are coaches that hold their players responsible for the entire playbook, for knowing what to do even if the play had'nt been run all season. In my view, that's a good way to lose on principle. I'll go over things in practice that we ran last week; the players may groan, but they'll have no excuse for messing up.

You can apply the same idea and methods to your buisness .

Demons

Sometimes they're in a bottle
Sometimes a pair of high heal shoes
Some come rolled in paper
Some have six strings and only play the blues
Once you meet the devil
There's no way he'll let you be
When I'm not chasing demons
There's demons chasing me
Skeletons in closets
Ghost underneath the bed
They hide out in pictures
And in words better left unsaid
They hang around like perfume
And haunt me like an ancient melody
When I'm not chasing demons
There's demons chasing me
There's things I can?t leave alone
'Cause they won't leave me alone
What I want ain't what I need
Still I reach for the things I crave
Better try to runaway
Maybe I'm afraid of being free
When I'm not chasing demons
There's demons chasing me
So roll one up and light it
Pickup my old guitar
I'm playing crossroads
Drinkin' whiskey from the mason jar
There's heartache at my front door
Says she needs my company
When I'm not chasing demons
There's demons chasing me
There's things I can?t leave alone
'Cause they won't leave me alone
What I want ain't what I need
Still I reach for the things I crave
Better try to runaway
Maybe I'm afraid of being free
When I'm not chasing demons
There's demons chasing me

Money

Money Money Money

Money should not be our God but yet we all serve it, worry about it and at times do not speak up in fear of money.
How different would our life be if we could actually speak out in truth and not in fear of losing your job or being politically ridiculed or punished?
I hear every day in every walk of life and in all businesses, people being wronged and being silent or whispering to their small circle and kissing the brass.

Wrong Wrong Wrong.

The main reason businesses are suffering is because they continue to live in the bubble and because they have put their true workers on the outside they will never correct their issues. Instead they will just point down and to everyone else to blame others for their failures.
If you do not include the people that actually carry the water how in the world can you succeed?
If the only people in the room are the stuff shirts,  getting overpaid most likely, then who are they listening to?

Because their number one goal is to just protect their own job and their own bonuses they spew out these rediculous directives and just spin spin spin.

If they kick the can further on down the road they live to see another day.

Money drives their decisions..their own money..and that is why they will always fail.

Managers

The power your manager holds over you, your employment security and your career path makes your direct boss the most important person in your working life for as long as you have your job.
The unequal power relationship between a manager and their subordinate is one of the most dysfunctional features of traditional employment.
It is ridiculous that new supervisors are promoted with little thought, given little to no training and then put in charge of other people, but it happens every day.
It is not  healthy for you to need one person your manager  to approve of your every move!

I hope you have a manager who trusts you and whom you can trust. You deserve to work for a manager who doesn't expect or require you to behave any differently at work than you do anywhere else.

You deserve to work for someone who wants to see the real you at work, not a fake, subservient version of you  but many are not that lucky.

Training

For any buisness to succeed you have to be able to train and explain.

It is not just good enough to point and demand it is your responsibility to train and teach each and every employee or laborer that works for you.

If an issue arises because of lack of preparation then use that as a teaching moment, point out how the situation could have been prevented.
Don't just demand quality, give them the tools to succeed.

Choose the moment and be wary of your voice infliction, the idea is to not reprimand but to teach.

Process is important, habits are important, keep tweaking your processes to improve, embrace technology but do not ever forget that technology can never replace the human side of business-
You can have the best technology but if you do not have the right process in place and you do not teach and embrace the people around you all the technology in the world will not make you successful.

Train and explain and while you are explaining, tell them why what they are doing is important and how it fits into the bigger picture.
Do not assume they know.

It is your responsibility to teach, and train and explain.

Intimidation

Intimidation is not a way to lead or a way to conduct buisness.
People who bully or try to intimidate have always bothered me and I have always fought against them.
First I NEVER allow them to dictate ANYTHING over me , I would never allow them that Power.
Unfortunately I have to watch others get caught in their web though, I do my best to try to help but they know who they can prey on and they attack.
I can say that their power is fleeting because you can never sustain with that mentality but in their wake they do leave collateral damage.
Bullies are normally bullies because of their own insecurities and inability to actually see people or they are so paronoid that they have to run their day through intimidation to deflect.
Do not give away YOUR power or be intimidated by anyone.
Do YOUR job and do not feed into their insecurities and do not give them the satisfaction as to argue or lose your focus. Let them drown in their own negativity and be better then them .
Be the best YOU can be !

Focus

In all the busy and with all the buzz around it is more important then ever to FOCUS.
Focus on YOUR job and what YOU can do better.
If you do not like something then try to conduct change but change does not come from dogging the other guy or by spewing venom.
Change comes from within and sometimes it has to come in increments but most of all be honest with yourself and focus on what your part of the process is- do your job.
Everyone does not need to know any private conversations you may have as a malfunction fact people will not trust you if they see or hear their private conversations they may have had with you and they see or hear them on socmedia or from other people.
Focus on what you can do to conduct change but most important focus on the day in front of you and do your very best- it is YOUR reputation and PRIDE on the line.

Buck Up

Did you mess up ?
Forget to do something?
Shoulda- woulda- coulda-
Buck Up !
Buck Up and admit it and move on.. learn from it..apologize if necessary and make good.
People will respect you more if you just admit that you may of messed up then if you try to hide it or worse blame others.
Admit your mistakes and do it sooner rather then later.
And if others messed up don't take them to the tool shed ( an old saying meaning to tally wack them- another old saying meaning to yell or belittle someone ) if the people around you mess up and everyone is stressing out that is the time to extend the olive branch ( another old saying meaning to reach out and befriend someone) - they will remember your kindness and forgiveness the next time you may neededing it.
Build allies and bridges and partners..be honest .
Buck Up ! ( an old saying meaning to stand up or be true or do the right thing..even if it's difficult)

The Life

It was early one morning
Playa del Carmen
That's when I first met Jose
He had a 12 foot Schooner
A 3 foot cooler
Full of the catch of the day
And he was wrinkled from grinning
From all of the sun he had been in
He was barefoot, cerveza in hand
He said "Gracias senor", when I paid him too much for
All of the Snapper he had
Now I told him my friend it ain't nothing
In the best broken Spanish I knew
I said I make a good living
Back home where I'm from
He smiled and said Amigo me too
He said I fish and I play my guitar
I laugh at the bar with my friends
I go home to my wife
I pray every night
I can do it all over again
Somewhere over Texas
I thought of my Lexus
And all the stuff I work so hard for
And all the things that I've gathered
From climbing that ladder
Didn't make much sense anymore
They say my nest egg ain't ready to hatch yet
They keep holding my feet to the fire
They call it paying the price
So that one day in life
I'll have what I need to retire
And just fish
And play my guitar
And laugh at the bar with my friends
And go home to my wife
And pray every night
I can do it all over again
And to think that I thought for a while there that I had it made
When the truth is I'm really just dying
To live like Jose
And just fish
Play my guitar
Laugh at the bar with my friends
Go home to my wife
Pray every night
I can do it all over again
Wouldn't that be the life?
Wouldn't that be the life?

God bless the USA

May God bless the United States of America.
This great experiment is still alive and cooking over 200 years later.
Democracy!
Individual rights- Frredom of speech - Freedom to worship who you wish.
All worth fighting for - Frredom isn't Free- many have fought and are active members in or military and it is because of their sacrifices we get to live in this great experiment.
We are feeling our way around and some of us express our thoughts and opinions differently but is very important to democracy that we continue to express our opinions.
We need to practice debate and discussions and agree to to disagree at times but to give each other the respect that we all deserve.
Our experiment gets messy at times but it is still one of the best philosophies on the planet.
Indivusal rights

Live Free !

The truth

Discovering the Truth..
Finding the truth can be difficult at times, most people see the truth as THEY see it and have a very difficult time seeing it from any other side.
Sometimes you may need to just absorb it all, listen and maybe even do your own research.
You most definitely should not give knee jerk reactions or you just may end being the jerk.
Always try to see the other side no matter how crazy or opposite it may look or sound.
Do not get bullied, the guy yelling the loudest standing on his soap box saying ..hey look over here..is probably going to just give you his opinions ..just louder and probably with a squished up face and hands and arms moving all about. But in the end they are just HIS opinions and how he sees the situation. Does HE have all the facts ? Are they mostly personally motivated?
Do not be sheep.
Take the time to do your own investigating, stop , take a huge breathe in and just listen, do not act in the moment and join the crowd.
Be brave and strong enough to think on your own.
Money is the motivator for most everybody unfortunately and if you look under the sheets and keep pulling the thread you most likely will always find a money trail.
If you want real change ..start with the man ( or woman ) in the mirror.
Have the courage to stand alone if you must , there is strength in numbers but in the end it is YOU that you have to answer to..your moral code.
You can't hide from the real truth..the truth as YOU know it...follow your heart and your head.
