Depression

The problem with depression is you cannot see it.
Do you know somebody who suffers from depression?
If you are not privy to knowing - how would you indenify it ?
I can pretty much guarantee that there are people that you work with or friends or relatives around you that are suffering from depression and you most likely have no idea.
We are blind to depression for several reasons- (1) people learn to cover it up, they smile and laugh when around others and fall right back into the black hole when alone (2) Most of the time we are too busy being absorbed in our own lives to actually “see” and listen to the people around us.
Unlike other illnesses you most likely do not have any outward appearances that are easily recognizable, you do not have a bone sticking out or your complexion looks the same and if you smile they will never know.
A lot of other things get cause depression, if you are a child growing up today you have to deal with bulling and social media and with kids not running around outside creating their own circle of friends and just playing they are stuck in front of the computer more- alone.
Adults have increased worrying about their job and bills which all feed into depression.
So what can you do ?
To help others you need to stop, look and listen and be there for them.
For yourself you need to try to want for less and appreciate more.
Of course nothing is that easy and some will say depression may be in your DNA , it it well may be, same as the illness of alcoholism. But if you indentify your weaknesses you can beat them-
But first you need to look in the mirror and “see” the people around you.
