And Then They Came For Me

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

As difficult as it can be at times we need to always have the courage to stand up for what is right and to help those that are being treated wrongly or abused. You never know when the day may come that you are the one looking for support and a helping hand.
