This guy does not EVER do the minimum

Below is an email from a customer on one of drivers, Kevin Mayberry, who only knows how to do things one way....give it your best

Hi Dave. I just want to let you know how much I appreciate how Kevin has handled my move so far. I am a single parent and professional who travels every week on business and I had very little time to prepare for my move from California to Virginia.

Kevin offered to help me box up items, knowing that I would not be able to meet the deadline since I had very little help. He came over the day before and helped me tremendously. I would not have made it without him.

In addition, Kevin and his staff were very efficient and I feel that I received excellent customer service. I am looking forward to seeing him next week at my new home.

I am very thankful that he was assigned to be my driver and wanted to note my appreciation.

Great letter and always nice to read...
Going above and beyond and helping someone out in a time of need...
That is what it is about in business and in life...THANKS KEVIN

MORE ON CAPTAIN FREEMAN....

Ed Freeman was a larger than life hero.  Apparently, he had a great sense of humor.  He also was exceptionally humble.  He wasn’t actually awarded “The Medal” until 2001.  This battle actually happened on November 14th in 1965 not 1967.  On that day in 1965 there were actually two pilots who braved insurmountable odds to save lives.  While both men were extremely brave, they were also both exceptionally humble.  The other pilot was MAJ Bruce Crandall.  Crandall was Freemans’ Commander and he(Crandall) immediately submitted Freeman for the award in 1965.  Freeman refused to “cooperate” with the folks tasked with gathering the necessary information to give to Congress for this award, so, the process was never completed.  Apparently, Freeman refused to be considered unless his counterpart received the same consideration.  Crandall, as you might have guessed, declined to pursue that course.     Anyway, Crandall never stopped “working” on the award for Freeman.  In 2001 Freeman finally acquiesced and was awarded the Medal of Honor.  Freeman, then became a strong advocate for Crandall.  In 2002 a movie about the battle at Ia Drang was made starring Mel Gibson (We Were Soldiers Once).  This created new interest in several of the soldiers involved in the incredible battle, including, Freeman and Crandall.  This, coupled with the tireless efforts of many, led to Crandall receiving the Award in 2007.   Crandall is still alive, and is quite a character.

I thought you might find that tidbit interesting.  There is a web site (run by the Department of Defense) that has a ton if information about our Nation’s highest honor in case you are interested:   http://www.cmohs.org/

From our agent in Kansas, John Campbell.....thank you John for the clarification and the information.

Stay true to yourself

Below are great lyrics from the song entitled- Change-(Garth Brooks)

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

It is so easy to give up or to give in, especially when you feel out numbered or bullied but if you stay true to your beliefs you will not only feel better about your situation but you will feel better about yourself.

It may not be easy, actually I can pretty much assure you that it will not be, but if you just go with the flow knowing that it is wrong or at least against your principles then you fail and lose your direction and your power.

I know what it is like, there are days that you just don't have the fight in you.
Days when it is easier to just take the path of less resistance.

The longer you live a lie a longer the longer it takes to find yourself again and in many cases people do not, they just go along rather then try to change things.

EVERYONE LOSES......DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO CHANGE YOU.

It was NOT HIS job...

You're a 19 year old kid and you are critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

It is November 11, 1967.

Your unit is out numbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO
(Commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.

Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.

As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then- over the machine gun noise- you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.

You look up and see Huey coming in. But..it doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.

Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you.

He's not Med Evac so it's not his job,  but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.

Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety.

And, he kept coming back !! 13 MORE TIMES !!  Until all the wounded was out.

No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.

He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.

Medal of Honor recipient Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died Auhust 20th, 2008 at the age of 80, in Boise Idaho.

May GOD Bless and rest his soul.........A TRUE AMERICAN HERO....

Doing the absolute minimum

You all know and have probably worked with people that take on an attitude of.. " this is how much you pay me so this is how much effort I will give you" OR it's not my job.

They figure that if you pay them more then they will do more or learn more.

The biggest problem with that is one will never know exactly what your true potential really is, you or the person that is in the decision seat.

You not only cheat your employer but you cheat yourself because if you never try to learn more you will never grow and learn new things. Within that part of it is where you may be steered somewhere that you never would of even of imagined.

Push yourself, want to learn and help and it will always pay off in the long run.

Most employers want to see want you can do first and just where your commitment is- then the process will eventually take it's coarse....again maybe not on your time table but it will.

The American Dream

What is the American Dream to you?

To me, it is about opportunity and the freedom to obtain your goals through those opportunities.

For most of us, it isn't easy.  No one said it would be, but at least we live in a land that you can still work hard and have a chance to steer your own life, whatever your goals may be.

When my wife and I were married back in 1985, we didn't have two nickles to rub together. To pay for our wedding rings, we had to open up our wedding envelopes on our wedding night and use most of the money to pay for our rings.

We did not have much but we knew what we wanted. We wanted a house and a family. We worked hard and grabbed every opportunity as we went along and enjoyed the ride.

Don't get me wrong. We did not always enjoy every challenge and there were plenty of days that we didn't know how we were going to pay the bills or get heating oil...but we did it. We did not look for hand outs or complain.  If times got tough, I picked up a second job. We watched our money and only bought things that we absolutely needed. (I can write a few separate blogs just on our exploits with our automobiles.)

It is NOT easy, but I still believe that if you put in an honest days work and try not to hurt anybody, you will succeed. Of course it may not always be on your timetable...but little is.

If you do not think that we still have something unique here in the United States, then go out there and visit other countries. We still have the foundation and the freedom.

All you can ask for is the opportunity and the freedom to pursue your dream.

That is the American dream to me.

Mess with one of us.....

Mess with one of us you got us all......that is a line from a Kenny Chesney song called the " Boys of Fall ".

The song is about a football team and how as a team they have the mentality that they help each other and come to each other's defense. If you mess with one of them you have the rest of them to answer to.

That type of mentality wins, that type of TEAM effort will allow a group of people to accomplish some pretty cool stuff.

That same type of philosophy needs to occur in your work place, in your every day.

You can NOT succeed alone. Anyone who thinks that they have what they have on their own is in deep disillusionment.

Somebody had to help you, the question is - Are you helping someone? Are you willing to help your co-worker succeed? Are you quick to blame or point the finger or do you go one on one with the person in question and sincerely try to see their side or try to take the time so that they see your side?

I worked the sidelines for Pro Football teams in the NFL and when the offense comes off the field they sit on one side of the benches and when the defense comes off they sit on the other side. They sit next to each other so they can discuss what they saw and how to game plan during the game. Their respective coaches will come over to point out what they saw.

Can you imagine if during the game the someone from the offense went over to the defense as they were sitting there and they pointed in fingers in their face and blamed them for the losing score?

It would look like a team in disarray.

It would not look like a one for all and all for one team that's for sure. The players on the defense would get upset and yell back and everyone would lose focus on the game itself.

That is what happens in business, we need to sharpen our part , we need to look at ourselves and ask what we could of done different at the same time that we help the people around us improve what they do.

We throw the word "team" around a lot but that needs to be your goal every day- how can the team succeed? How can we collectively reach our goal.

Any great player will always tell you that they did not do it on their own, and in the end that is the where the greatest feeling is- Accomplishing the goal together, sacrificing for each other. Putting yourself out there.

Try it, make it your goal to work with each other and gain the team atmosphere.
